Manoel Barral-Netto, MD. PhD (Federal University of Bahia – UFBA) is an investigator at Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz) and currently Vice-President for Education, Information and Communication. He works in immunoregulation of parasitic diseases, with emphasis on leishmaniasis and malaria. For his scientific work in these fields he was awarded with the Equatorial Guinea Prize by UNESCO. At the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) he was Director of the School of Medicine and Vice-Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies. He also served at the Brazilian National Research Council (CNPq) both as Director of Life Sciences and as Vice-President. Dr. Barral-Netto is a member of the Brazilian National Academy of Sciences, a member of the Presidential National Council of Science and Technology and a Knight Grand Cross of the National Order of Scientific Merit.
